Structural Engineer

The Structural Engineer reports to the Section Leader Construction.

General job description
Execution and coordination of the work relating to the structural construction and outfit during for ships and motor yachts under construction, in an efficient and timely manner. This involves providing the proper documentation for purchasing, production and classifying authorities.

Job responsibilities

  • Distribution of information
    - Supports and gives advice to the Section Leader Construction and engineering project team members
    - Supports the production coordinators and subcontractors with advices and solutions in the technical field during the engineering, construction and outfitting phases
    - Coordinates, directs and reviews all the applicable structural design and engineering information for the assigned yard numbers
  • Engineering 
    - Collects from others and studies all relevant information on the specification of the yacht, standards and regulations to carry out the applicable engineering activities 
    - Creates arrangement plans and construction drawings
    - Writes technical purchase specifications for structural materials and outfit equipment
    - Analyzes complex technical problems and comes to suitable resolutions
    - Performs required complex (local-) strength calculations with structural analysis software, and by hand, according to the rules of classification societies and (inter-)national design codes
    - Performs calculations and prepares drawings concerning the loading and transportation of the yachts, and major structural components, to and from the covered building shed
    - Checks (self-)prepared documents upon completeness, correctness, coherence, makeability and consistency with the related documents
  • Other activities
    - Maintains contact with owner’s representatives, (inter-)national authorities, classification societies, subcontractors and suppliers
    - Organizes and participates actively in meetings and draws up the minutes
    - Keeps informed of technical, rules & regulatory developments 
    - Points out and presents proposals for product improvements and working methodologies


  • Discusses, presents proposals and makes decisions on structural issues with architects, owner’s representatives, (inter-)national authorities, classification societies, subcontractors and suppliers
  • Applies for and supplies information to the relevant parties 
  • Supervises and instructs the assigned engineers (if any)

The Structural Engineer is responsible for achieving the objective in a qualitative and quantitative manner.


BSc/MSc Naval Architect, Mechanical, Offshore, Civil or Structral Engineering
